What data is collected
Basic, anonymous visitor metrics are collected using the GDPR-compliant plugin Statify. I lovingly store the ID, date, referring URL, and target page for each unique visit in the site’s local database. Data older than 30 days is deleted by a daily cron job. The purpose of collecting this data is to maintain my ego, to understand which content is the most popular, and to determine where website views are coming from.
Some posts contain embedded iframes from other sites, such as YouTube and SoundCloud. Embedded videos are lazy-loaded using a plugin, meaning they will not be externally loaded until you click on them. Furthermore, they are embedded using Google’s privacy-enhanced “delayed cookie” mode. Information is only stored regarding your video settings, and only when you click the play button on the video.
Other embedded third-party content may collect information about you, especially if you are logged into said third-party sites.
Social media buttons included at the bottom of each post are static links, and do not transmit your information unless you click on them, after which time you are at the mercy of Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit, and Facebook’s privacy policies or lack thereof.
For more information, you can contact me at [email protected], but I don’t really know much more about third-party data collection than you do. 🙂
