Hot Info

Hi, I’m Phoebe, and OwInG tO Vannen not looking at any other pages (seriously, um, you DON’T need to write like a dictionary), I am establishing my own cool island on this page where I can write whatever I want. So here are the real deets about ME!

General

Q. Who are you?

A. My name is Phoebe, and this laptop I stole lets me connect to your world! My main thing is music, though I also make games, design websites, and very sometimesly draw or voice-act. My hobbies include video games, film, and dance (read: “””dance”””). Mental illness is my hot-button issue. I’m a big gambler. My favorite word: “windfall.” “Natto” gets my tummy rumbling.

Back when Google+ was around and foisted into our lives (Gen-Z, please open your history textbook to the chapter marked “Late Cretaceous Period”), I put my “real name” down as Jay Gatsby. This has led some people over the years to believe that is my actual name (Academia.edu’s automated emails thought I was getting cited in a bajillion papers). This is a great litmus test for which people slept through the easiest unit of 11th grade English.

Q. How do you capitalize your name?

A. These days, I stylize it as the all-lowercase “plasterbrain.” It used to have a capital L, so if you spell it that way it shows you are an OG.

Q. Brand colors, please!

A paint swatch from Dan Martin Home Solutions showing five colors. The first is called Blue Ribbon, but has been renamed "Go-2-Hell Blue" in someone's handwriting. #003DFF, Pantone 2132 C. The second is My Darling Rosey, renamed "Plasterbrain Pink." #FF206D, Pantone 191 C. The third, Going for Gold, is renamed "Dandelion Yellow" and annotated, "It's not the same color as my hair, Vannen!" #FFD500, Pantone Yellow 012 C. Next is Viking Blue, renamed "Tokyo Turquoise." #2AD2C9, Pantone 3252 C. Last is Heliotrope, renamed "Popstar Purple." #7B3CF4, Pantone 266 C.

Q. My school project for some reason wants me to interview a D-tier internet celebrity. Will you answer some questions for me?

A. oh no not again jk go ahead and send me an email.

My music

Q. Where can I learn to make music?

A. Check out my tutorial blog posts for essential starting-out information for making DTM (desktop music)!

Q. I love your work! In fact, I want to be a Plasterbrain when I grow up. How can I support you?

A. Join the plasterbrain fan club on my Patreon!

Q. Addendum to the previous: I cannot join your Patreon because I am very small and have no money, so you can imagine the stress I am under. What should I do?

A. Visit the Support page for more ways you can keep up with and support me on the ‘net.

Q. Can I do a remix or cover of [insert cool song here]?

Yes, and feel free to upload it to SoundCloud and YouTube if you want. Just get in touch first if you intend to distribute it to Spotify and other music services.

Q. Do you do music commissions?

A. Generally I don’t do one-off songs for new clients, but I’m fairly open to indie game projects in need of composers. RPG Maker-style 2D horror and unique visual novels are way up my alley.

My blog

Q. What the heck is this site?

A. This is my blog, featuring music tips and tutorials, soundtrack postmortems, thoughts on media, original stories, and like all quality websites, my batshit dream diary. Previous iterations of the plasterblog focused on freeware indie game reviews, heartfelt essays, and the occasional fanfiction sporking.

I’ve done my best to make the site accessible in terms of color contrast, font sizes, keyboard usability, and semantic structure.

Q. Very nice, ms. Ms. Accessibility, how do I disable the stupid fireworks that go off every time I click?

A. You can’t. This is an integral feature of the website.

Q. Where are the comic images from?

A. The comic panels and advertisement clippings are from scans of ostensibly public domain comics hosted on ComicBookPlus.com. Sources include Tippy Teen; Pantera Rubia; Sunny, America’s Sweetheart; Girls’ Fun and Fashion Magazine; Suzie; Prison Break; and Lucy, the Real Gone Gal.

Q. How can I subscribe to blog updates? Do you have a newsletter?

A. Thanks to state-of-the-art WordPress technology, you can stay up to date with my posts via RSS. If you aren’t using RSS already, you’ll need an RSS reader (like Feedly), which lets you view updates for all your favorite blogs in one place.

Category pages on this site also have individual feed links in the description, in case you consider most of what I post to be weird spam.

Q. You used to have [insert post here] on your site but took it down. Can you put it back up?

A. Maybe šŸ‘€. I have copies of most of my old blog posts on my hard drive, so shoot me an email.
